Let’s play a game.
How many lists can Minneapolis and its surrounding suburbs be on top of regarding “The Best Place to ______.” You can fill in the blank and there is a good chance you’ll be right.
Forbes.com places Minneapolis at #1 for “Best City in America for Working Moms”
Are you a mom? Do you work? Do you live in Minneapolis? Well if so, stay right where you are. Minneapolis tops yet another list of “America’s Bests.” This time, it’s described as the best place to live for working mothers.
To calculate their list, Forbes started with the 50 largest metropolitan statistical areas in America. Safety, great schools and health care also all play a part. However, there is a lot of other information to consider when making these lists.
Job opportunities, high earning potential and cost of living come into play when creating a list like this. Unemployment rates are also a huge factor in this. It would be hard to put a city at the top of a list for “working moms” when there are no places for moms to work. Minneapolis happens to be the 2nd lowest in unemployment at the moment.
Education plays a significant role as well. Anyone who is from Minnesota can tell you (in an intelligent way) that we have great schools here.
What was one of the biggest kickers for Minneapolis being on top? Crime rates. With only 216 crimes per 100,000 residents per year, Minneapolis has the lowest violent-crime rate in the country. This makes moms feel good.
Keep it up Minneapolis and surrounding suburbs! With Eden Prairie receiving the honor of “Best Place to Live in America” just a few weeks ago, this is now icing on the cake. Until another list comes out, enjoy the sweet taste of victory citizens of the Twin Cities!
*Where is the worst place to go if you’re a working mom, you ask? Don’t gamble your career in Las Vegas, mommies. With over 600 violent crimes per 100,000 residents per year and the highest unemployment rate in the country, there is nothing lucky about the Sunset Strip.
